Designer Nicole Meyer tasked herself with designing a logo a day for each of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes, because she thought lake logos tended to be, well, ugly. These are three of the logos completed so far, my favorites.
Update: This project is featured in Fast Company; Meyer took up the project because she missed Wisconsin after relocating to Arizona, and she was looking to build her portfolio with a personal project. She researches each lake’s surrounding community to find out as much as she can to come up with the look. The project will take 27 years to complete.
I heard a story about this on NPR this morning. I was super interested but forgot about it until I saw this post. These are a great, you should go to the site and view them all.

Off Book: Typography, A Mini Documentary on Typography by PBS Arts By on August 5, 2011
“Off Book | Typography” is a fascinating short documentary about typography by PBS Arts. The documentary is the second episode of Off Book, a new web series that focuses on expanding the definition of art.
Type is everywhere. Every print publication, website, movie, advertisement and public message involves the creation or selection of a fitting typeface. Online, a rich and artistic typographical culture exists, where typefaces are created and graphic design seeps in to every image.
In episode 2 of Off Book, typeface designers Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones outline the importance of selecting the right font to convey a particular feeling. Graphic designer Paula Scher talks about building identity in messaging, while Eddie Opara uses texture to create reaction. Infographic designers Julia Vakser and Deroy Peraza map complicated data sets into digestible imagery, mixing color, graphics and type.
